A NOTE FROM PASTOR ROYDON
Prayer Today, we will talk about bible verses about why we should pray. Many Christians do not know what this means. Prayer is where we share our joys, fears, and hopes. It’s the way we connect with our Creator, letting Him know what’s on our minds and hearts. As we explore these verses, we’ll see how prayer is essential for our spiritual growth, guidance, and strength. Prayer is not just a duty; it’s an invitation from God to share in a loving relationship.
The Power of Prayer In our lives, we often face challenges and uncertainties. It’s during these times that the power of prayer comes to the forefront. When we pray, we connect our hearts with God’s. This connection empowers us and provides the strength we need to navigate through tough situations. Prayer isn’t just about asking for things; it’s about recognizing God’s sovereignty and trusting Him with our lives. When we approach our prayers, we do so with the assurance that they can change our circumstances, offer us peace, and allow us to experience God’s presence in a profound way. Embracing the power of prayer helps transform our worries into trust and our despair into hope. James 5:16: “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Matthew 7:7: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Prayer as a Form of Worship Prayer is not just about asking for things. It’s an act of worship, a moment where we can praise and recognize God for who He is. When we engage in prayer, we honour God’s greatness, love, and grace. Worshipping through prayer allows us to draw closer to Him and deepen our understanding of His nature. By expressing gratitude and adoration in our prayers, we align our hearts with His will, allowing His purpose to become our own. We can use prayer as a way to remind ourselves of His faithfulness and love, fostering a lifestyle and mindset filled with thanksgiving and respect. Psalms 100:4: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalms 150:6: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” Colossians 4:2: “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Prayer for Guidance Life can feel overwhelming at times, and we might find ourselves standing at a crossroads, unsure of which direction to take. This is where prayer comes in as a vital resource. When we seek God in prayer, we’re inviting His wisdom into our decision-making process. Through prayer, we can listen for His voice, gain clarity, and receive the peace that comes from knowing we’re following His plan. By asking for guidance, we acknowledge our dependence on Him and our desire to align our paths with His. Remember, we’re not alone in making life’s earthly decisions; God is eager to lead us when we call on Him. Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Psalms 32:8: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Isaiah 30:21: “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
Prayer in Times of Trouble When we face difficulties, our first instinct might be to worry or stress out. However, God invites us to cast our burdens on Him through prayer. He doesn’t want us to carry our troubles alone; instead, He wants to be our support and refuge. In times of trouble, prayer becomes our lifeline, calming our hearts and reminding us of God’s promises. We can turn to Him for comfort, strength, and hope. By depending on God in our hardest moments, we discover that His grace is sufficient to help us endure and overcome any obstacle. Psalms 50:15: “And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Prayer for Others As we pray, let us not only focus on our needs but also intercede for others. When we lift others in prayer, we demonstrate love and compassion, reflecting the heart of Christ. Praying for others can be a source of tremendous encouragement for them and can strengthen our bonds within the community. It reminds us that we’re not alone in our journey, and we have a responsibility to support one another. God invites us to bear each other’s burdens through prayer, showing us that we are all part of His family. Together, our prayers can transform lives and bring healing to our communities. James 5:14: “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord.” Psalms 122:6: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May those who love you be secure.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
Praying with Thankfulness Gratitude should find a place in our prayers, no matter the situation we face. When we approach God with a thankful heart, we acknowledge His many blessings and have an attitude of appreciation for what He has done in our lives. This practice of prayer reminds us of His faithfulness, encouraging us to trust Him even when times are uncertain. Thankful prayers can lighten our spirits and help shift our focus away from negativity and disappointment toward His goodness. Let’s commit to making gratitude a core part of our prayers, seeking to always give thanks, no matter the circumstances. Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” |

PRAYER MEETINGEach Sunday at 8:45 am before the 9:00 am service The idea is that if you just want to pop in, say a quick prayer, and leave, that’s okay, but if we as a church want to see the Lord moving in our church, if we want growth in our spiritual lives and growth in the church, that is where it needs to start. 2Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land" |

AN UPDATE FROM COOKTOWN BAPTIST CHURCHThere has been a delay!!! Work on restoring their roof was due to start last week, Monday, 9th February 2026. However, due to the heavy rain forecast for that upcoming week, the roof work had to be delayed for two weeks. Last week, the road between Cooktown and Cairns was blocked off due to rivers rising over the road. Pastor Morgan will keep us updated.
